4 Ways To Attempt Something You’ve Never Tried Before

Many people go through their lives too afraid to try something new. They may have never been shown the example by their parents, or maybe they are just uneasy about change by nature.  However, if everyone were too afraid to take on a challenge they’ve never tried before, the world wouldn’t be what it is today.

Innovators of all kinds from Stephen Hawking to Steve Jobs would never have made their mark on the world.  Letting fear hold them back rather than daring to create something new on uncharted territory wouldn’t have only done themselves a huge injustice, but the world as well.

Once you’ve decided that you want to bravely attempt something you’re no expert on, no matter what it is, here are the things you’ll need to get started.

Gather All You’ll Need

The first thing you’ll need is to know what the project ahead of you requires. Once you know exactly what you need, you can start to gather materials in order to get you started.

In order to find out what you need you should get your hands on whatever knowledge you can.  Asking experts, looking online, reading materials. Doing whatever it takes to know what kind of tools you’ll need is essential to get you started.

Find a Mentor

Even some of the greatest geniuses in history had mentors.  Having someone to look up to and model yourself after is a great way to stay motivated and enthusiastic about your path.

If you go about your task without someone who is an expert guiding you along the way, you run the risk of not only losing your way but potentially making mistakes.  Mentors are there not to tell you what to do, but to provide helpful insight when you can’t provide it yourself.

Take Your Time

When embarking on your tasking, it’s important to be patient with your process.  There isn’t any use in rushing ahead when you aren’t an expert. You may end up wasting valuable resources as a result.

Rather than rushing, take your time and thoughtfully double check your progress every step of the way in order to ensure that you aren’t making errors.  Checking as you go as opposed to checking at the end means that you will avoid the risk of having to start completely over at the very end.

Don’t Compare Yourself

If you start to find yourself comparing yourself to others, it’s important to stop immediately.  No two people are the same and neither are their processes.  Seeing yourself as a unique person will help you avoid believing that you aren’t as good as anyone else.

Having confidence in yourself is key when you start something you’ve never tried.
