Balancing Work and Play: Why it is Important to Take Some Time for Yourself

For working-class, taking a vacation is never easy. Paid off-days are hardly ever enough to plan a real getaway, and the world always seems like it will end if you step out of the office for more than a few hours. But as studies show, not taking time off can do much more harm than good, not only to your well-being but your productivity as well.

So, have you been stuck on your desk for more days than you can count in one seating? Here are some excellent reasons why you need to take a break and go on holiday.

1. Health

Taking time off from a busy schedule gives you time to regain lost hours of sleep at night, enjoy some good-old Vitamin D sunshine in the morning, go for an afternoon swim, and catch up with your gym buddies in the evening. Being in that relaxed, holiday state of mind means you’ll have time to de-stress, keep fit and watch your health. You may not realize it on day one, but you’ll be doing your mind and body a huge favor in the long term.

2. Doing What You Love

Your fast-paced lives rarely leave you time to build upon your talents and hobbies. When you’re away from work, you’ll have the freedom to do what makes you happy, be it getting lost in a good book, shopping around local malls, going for the movies, visiting nearby attractions or indulging in spa treatments. Have your painting brushes been locked up in your desk drawer the whole year? A holiday is all you need to relive those lost creative days. After all, creative juices flow seamlessly in a relaxed mind.

3. Some Valuable “Me Time.”

There’s no better time to reflect on life than when you’re away from your daily hustles. A holiday sets you free for some soul-searching, allowing you to clear your mind, improve your mood, think about your dreams and aspirations, and perhaps even find out new things about yourself.

Finding a nice spot on the beach and taking in the cool breeze and the relaxing sounds of the waves, even for an hour or two, can be enough to rejuvenate your body and set your mind straight.

4. Trying Something New

People feel most inspired when they’re on holiday, so taking time off may give you the spirit to do something you’ve never done before. If you’ve always wanted to try that famous Chinese restaurant downtown or go golfing at the local course, a break from work is just what you need to fulfill your dreams. You may even pick up a new skill, like photography or piano playing, and discover new interests that you never knew you’d like.

5. Create Memories

Apart from getting some much-needed relaxation, the best thing about taking some time off is that you’ll have time to get out of town, see the world, and make lasting memories. Nothing brings loved ones closer than enjoying special moments and sharing new experiences together. And even if you’re vacationing alone, that soothing walk along the Placencia Peninsula in Belize or the exciting stay at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Pretoria will stay with you forever.

Conclusion

Going on holiday is an opportunity to escape from the stresses of everyday life, oil your gears and recharge your batteries. If you’ve been putting work above yourself for a while, now is the time to lay down your tools and take that much-deserved vacation.
