PET NUTRITION: TAKING CARE OF YOUR CATS

Cats are one of the homeowners’ favorite pets, besides dogs. They are great companions. Besides not requiring a huge budget to maintain, they are also gentle around children and playful (to the child’s delight). Cats are much easier to care for if you know what you are supposed to do. Taking good care of your cat includes putting into consideration its nutritional needs and well-being. For example, if you notice that your cat is looking stressed or anxious, it might be worth finding some organic cbd for cats to see if that makes a difference. That should allow the cat to relax. Make sure the well-being of the cat is a priority, and ensure it is relaxed and comfortable. Good nutrition equals good health and an energetic, playful and cuddly pet. It is of great importance that you feed your cat correctly. Apart from regular feeding and clean water always, below are other ways to take care of your cat’s nutritional needs;

Introducing new food

Introducing your pet to new food, just like in human beings, can be tricky and end up badly. You need the patience to work through this. Take your time, and let it be a gradual process till they get used to it. Hurrying your cat to new diets can lead to ill health. Balanced diet

Always ensure that you purchase quality cat food for your cat. When you are on a low budget and running out of cat food, it might be tempting to give them some of the food for your dog. The two pets, however, have different nutritional needs and don’t have to share food. Limit the amount of raw meat your cat is being fed, and keep them off bones as they might get stuck in their guts. Feeding your cat on vitamins and calcium supplements can end up being counterproductive. Online pet doctors recommend keeping your cat’s diet healthy.

Number of meals in a day

How much you feed your pets should depend on how old it is. The younger it is, the more meals it will need in a day. For kittens that are between six and twelve weeks, then three to four meals a day is more appropriate as kittens should start with small amounts of food. This reduces to two or three meals a day when it gets to between twelve weeks and six months. From there up to twelve months, then two meals a day is just fine. Cats older than that can have two meals a day, but one would do just fine with them. Older cats may require special diets and feeding schedules.

Milk diet

Cats love milk, that is for sure. However, milk is not always for them. Milk usually causes them stomach upsets, because of the presence of lactose in milk. If you have to feed your cat on milk, it is advisable to get milk that is lactose-free.

Deworming

Instead of waiting till your pet falls ill to take action, you should have a deworming schedule to prevent illnesses. It is, however, advisable to deworm your pet immediately after acquiring it. Regular deworming keeps your cat healthy.

For kittens, deworming should take place after every three weeks until they are six months old after which they should be dewormed every three months.

However, if your cat only stays indoors, then once a year is just fine. You might need to consult a vet on a proper deworming schedule.
