How to take years off your age by choosing the right look

It’s a question that perplexes us, how to look younger without looking like mutton dressed as lamb. We’ve considered this conundrum at great length and come up with the following simple steps to achieving a look that becomes you:

Overhaul your wardrobe

Give your wardrobe an overhaul before you do anything else. Ditch anything that is ill fitting or made of poor quality fabric. One top tip when going through your wardrobe is to take everything out, put it all in bin bags and take out the few things you want to keep. Alternatively, face all of your hangers in one direction, then after you’ve taken something out to wear, put it back facing the other way, so you’ll soon see which pieces you’re wearing and which you aren’t.

Well fitting clothes are a must

A key to taking years off your look is to wear clothes that fit well. Too loose and you’ll look messy, so if you have expensive items made in quality fabrics that are loose, have them altered to update their look and make them fit.

On the other hand, too tight and your clothes won’t give a good impression, and they could age you. So ditch those clothes that don’t flatter your shape. Look for clothes that skim your figure comfortably, but neither pull nor bag. It’s best to keep just a few things in your wardrobe that coordinate well with each other and show you at your best.

Keep it simple

When choosing new outfits, keep it simple, both in terms of cut and embellishments. A classic pared down style is less likely to age or date you.

Ditch shiny fabrics

Shiny fabrics tend to show every lump and bump, so they’re unlikely to flatter your waistline and will often look dated too, dating you. So stick to matt natural fabrics like linen, cotton and wool. Generally the heavier the fabric, the better they’ll fall, giving you a more flattering silhouette, plus natural fabrics breathe, so you’re less likely to feel sweaty and uncomfortable.

Colour rules

Though we often think of it as the ultimate colour for smart, sharp attire, black clothes can be draining and unflattering. So look for softer hues such as dark denim, warm navy and charcoal grey. Dickies 872 trousers in grey or navy are neat, practical and not too formal.

Your hair

Thinning and hair loss are natural signs of aging, but they can also be caused by certain medical conditions and trauma to the scalp. People who lose their hair may choose to have a hair restoration in Colorado (or elsewhere) as a cosmetic procedure. Also, if you are starting to notice new white hairs, don’t color your hair to hide gray or sweep thinning hair over your bald patch – as an alternative, you could enlist the help of a skilled hairstylist to find the cut that best suits you. It may be that a shorter layered look will cut out the grey, make it less noticeable and thicken the look of your hair too.
Your skin

Don’t get caught up in a long winded skin care routine, but do use a good sun block to keep your skin looking even in complexion and help prevent the ageing ravages of the sun. Yes, we all need a little vitamin D now and again, but ultimately invest in sun block, and it will be good for your health and good for your looks too.

So there you have few simple steps to take, to help take years off your age by choosing the right look.
